The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has secured the 19th position in the inaugural QS World University Rankings for Sub-Saharan Africa 2026. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya received the certificate at the launch in Accra, Ghana.

Ortuanya praised the achievement, saying it's an honour and a call to greater responsibility. "We must intensify efforts to strengthen research output, deepen international collaborations, and enhance teaching quality," he said.

The ranking evaluated 260 institutions, with 69 universities formally ranked. Three Nigerian universities featured in the top 20. The assessment considered academic reputation, research productivity, and faculty capacity, reflecting global standards and African realities. In the ranking, UNN is ranked third.

UNN's ranking signals a new momentum in its quest for continental leadership in teaching, research, and innovation.
